Results are in and I’m ready to share what I think are the top four dog breeds. Ready?
Jack Russell – Known to be hyper and full of energy but very flexible. We have had one for 17 years and she is such a sweetheart. Santa brought her way back when…..Even I didn’t know anything about this little puppy being on the Santa list. When she was little, she would let Cierra dress her up and push her around in a baby buggy. Very low maintenance. No major (or even minor) medical issues. Long lifespan if treated like a family member =)
Meet Java!
Dorkie – Whew! We actually rescued this Dauschund/Yorkie mix. It was love at first sight. He is incredibly protective and always wants to know you love him. He definitely realizes how lucky he is, lol. He does not like to leave the property. If we take his collar off, he runs and hides. Poor baby. Very low maintenance. No major (or even minor) medical issues. We have had him for 5 years now.
Meet Skipper!
Yorkie – This is the only dog I actually searched to find. Days and weeks on the internet and making phone calls to finally land on one 20 minutes from work. She is very high maintenance. Needy. Sissy. A barker. Demands attention. Bedtime is at 9 but she is up EARLY. No major (or minor) issues. She will be two in February. And although I admit she is a total pain, we love her like just as much as the others. She loves attention and even sleeps with us. Yep! Who would have thought that?!!?? (it beats her whining during the night;)
Meet Bella!
Siberian Husky – Notice all other dogs were small breeds. Chase has always challenged us and wanting a ‘big’ dog was par for the course. She was definitely a difficult one to find but we were able to locate her in Charleston, WV so Chase took the drive. She is special for a few reasons. First, her and Chase share a birthday. Second, he picked her up on our 25th anniversary. She is a puppy. Gets a little hyper and loves playing with Skipper and Bella. So far she hasn’t shed too much. Chase takes extra steps with her and coats her food with goats milk (supposedly good for her coat and shedding) and feeds her so pretty pricy food. (yes, he still lives at home, lol) She definitely knows her ‘daddy’. When she hears his car or motorcycle, she patiently SITS at the door and just waits. But most importantly, she prefers to go right along with him. =) She is a beauty and we love her too.
Meet Bayley!
So there you have it. Totally my opinion of the top 4 dog breeds that bring love, happiness and fun into our home.
If someone would have told me we would have four dogs in our home, I would have sworn they were crazy but now, I wouldn’t change it for the world. If in the future I were searching for one of these breeds, I have found some potential options…
For a Yorkie – this would be my first choice: https://www.facebook.com/almostheavenbiewersandcloverdaleyorkies/?ref=br_rs
To rescue – there are SOOO many options however I would first check with our county animal shelter: http://www.awsjc.org
For a great Jack Russell – check these folks out:

And last but not least, if you are looking for a Siberian Husky, let me know and I can give you the contact info we have for Bayley’s parents. They don’t have a web-site but tend to have puppies available throughout the year.
Now if you are an animal lover but just don’t have the time, space or desire to own there are tons of opportunities to help out. Check with your local Animal Welfare Society, Pet Stores or County/State Community Facebook pages.
