Over the years, we have tried to instill in our children the importance of having a ‘family’ meal. Life is busy. Schedules are hectic. Exceptions are made. And now, that 20/20 hindsight just might be biting me.

I read an article about this topic and ah ha! researchers proved my point. If only I had enforced this more –
Check this out – It really is worth reading. There is so much good information in this article. One thing (of many) that good out was the stories that get told at the table. Seriously…..I’m sure there are tons of things our children don’t know about us and our childhood but may have learned at dinner. All those things I thought are actually proven to be true. It’s almost bitter sweet. Onward and Upward though.
This did stick out and hit home –
Higher grade-point averages and self-esteem
Dinner conversations act as a vocabulary booster and build relationships
Regular family meals lower the rates of obesity
Totally makes sense to me. I laugh sometimes because I just had to have a table that seats 8. That typically only has two eating dinner and has become a ‘catch all’. Hmmmmm maybe I should practice what I preach.

So….point here? If you still have children at home. Take heed. It really does make a difference. Maybe we can teach our own children the importance with their children.
