As far back as I can recall, our Ocean City vacation fell during the same week of the White Marlin Open. We LOVED it. We have gotten up on Monday morning before daylight and watched the boats roll out. The parade of lights against the dark sky and black water is something to see.

We have planned our beach time around getting to 14th street to wait for the boats to come in.

We stood in the sweltering heat, surrounded by people trying to catch a glimpse of the hanging fish. Or the ‘fish cleanin’ lady’. She is A.W.E.S.O.M.E!

It is just what we love to do. No chairs. Wall to wall people. Pretty drinks with umbrellas. Kids butting in front. Fun times.

For whatever reason…..this year when I made the reservations, it was NOT the same week. FAIL. It took a little bit of time to be forgiven but I was. Cierra and Blake actually did stay a few extra days

so they could spend the first evening at the Marina….hoping for some fish. (yes, we were just a tad jealous) And, they certainly weren’t disappointed.

The blue marlin that is actually holding 1st place came in after they left. The tail was ripped off and it was less than pretty but who cares when it’s leading with a current $150K payout?!

And back home? Well, we improvised. Walmart trip for a cord. Laptop hooked to the TV. www.whitemarlinopen.com, and there you have it, right on the big screen.

Love it! And honestly, we have the best seats in the house. Relaxed, air conditioning, dinner. No complaining. We even got to witness the blue marlin almost falling in the bay when they couldn’t get it on the boat and then dock. Whewee that was something to see. We even gasped when it slipped just like the folks on the dock =)
I also LOVE to dream that one day….either we will have a place right there at the marina OR we will have a boat and be out fishing, ha! The sky is the limit, right?!
Here’s my goal. (insert laughing face)

So my point is……even if you can’t be places in person, there’s always a way to be a part of what’s happenin’. Of course we love anything to do with water and sand but still. You too can be a part of just about any tournament.
Two more days of fishing. Stay tuned. Here’s the current leader board:
