I remember as a kid going to the Fort Drive Inn at the bottom of Alstat’s hill (Prob spelled wrong). It was treat. We pull in, pay the money (maybe even hiding behind the seat) then put that big, clunky speaker on the window and roll it up.
If we were good enough, Dad would go to the concession stand and bring back snacks. Those were the days.
That drive inn eventually became the Harpers Ferry Flea Market –

and just a few years ago even that changed. The land was sold and the flea market was no more. Poof. Gone. Things change.
But, there is one thing that has been consistent for as long as I can remember….

Yep – the fruit stand. We used to stop on our way to my ‘ma’s’ in Harpers Ferry. The only problem was, it was on the right hand side of the road. If we missed it, too bad. There was no stopping on the way home because you had to cross the traffic. There were more accidents there than I care to mention.
There were times that I would stop on my way to work and pick up tomatoes, peaches, apples, whatever produce we wanted. We loved their stuff.
Shortly after the Flea Market was sold, they had to move as well. Oh my…to the other side of 340. The only constant in that area was now moving. And so it was. They moved. They re-established. And, there is now a stop light so fear not, you can visit from either side. It works out perfectly for me because it is a quick stop in and then right out on my way home.
Today I stopped for some tomatoes (and grabbed a cucumber) –

I spotted some strawberries and knowing what I planned for dessert I really wanted some ‘local’ berries.

You can even get bbq there and ice cream. I haven’t had their ice cream yet but on one of our trips to our favorite little town this season, I’m sure we will stop by.

So here’s to supporting the locals –

You cannot go wrong – we LOVE it and it’s really not just because my husband has his own ‘local’ electrical/construction business. Nope, NOT at all =)
